Tips to move forward, instead of remaining in the past.
When I was about 11 or 12, I was at the local swimming pool with a friend. We had an amazing time in the pool and once we were done messing around, we got out to go shower off and get dressed.
In the changing rooms, we came face to face with two girls about the same age as us, who were a little bigger than us in build.
They approached us and started to yell nasty words. Verbally abusing us maybe because we were short, or alone with no adult , probably because we were an easy target.
It was unpleasant to say the least. We fought back with our words too and in the end we were able to leave because other people came into the changing room and they could no longer bother us.
This is not a story about bullying, because we all know bullying is a low act.
This is a story about learning from things that happen and moving forward. I’ll never forget what happened at that swimming pool that day.
I remember thinking to myself and I still do from time to time, that I will never let anyone try to bully me again.
Things happen for a reason
In this story from my childhood, this happened to teach me valuable lessons.
- Bullying is unacceptable.
- Instead of being scared, I stood up to it. Focus on the lesson not what actually hurts.
- I now carry this story in my head. I remember the low act and I know I am better than that.
Everything that happens to us, happens for a reason. We often do not discover that reason until later on in life. When we finally discover why it happened, we understand and see the good in it. How we have learnt from it. How we can make use of our learning from these situations to move forward.

People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” — Marilyn Monroe
Good things do fall apart. Sure enough though better things then fall together.
My advice to all out there who need more clarity on things happening for a reason, when something happens to you, try the following tips to help get through.
1. Focus on what you can do.
Don’t worry about what you can’t do.
2. Look at the bad and turn it into something good.
We have to try and take the good from the bad. We have to find good in everything that happens.
3. Understand what happened and learn from it.
One of the most precious life lessons we have is learning from anything that happens. Never let a situation pass you by without understanding what happened and learning from it.
4. You can always ask for help
Someone out there is always ready and willing to help. You just have to have the courage to ask!
5. Know that you can choose. You always have a choice.
Go with you gut. Chose what makes sense and what feels right.
6. Stay calm. Overreacting is not going to fix it.
The best advise you can hear. Being calm allows you to think over things rationally and sensibly. Stay calm!
7. Be positive. Good things will come.
Most importantly stay positive. Positivity always wins. If we look on the brighter side, good things will come.
