Not everything goes our way. Life would be too simple if it did.
I often think about planning. I plan out most of my days and I like to have advance notice for activities that will happen. I like having a plan, being in routine and schedule because it helps my day flow.
Then there are those days where every plan is shot down. Things happen.
Life Happens
It sure does. To all of us. Look how the pandemic suddenly hit and turned millions of lives upside down. Lost jobs, family sickness, fear, sadness, loneliness many afraid to leave the house. Our lives were completely disrupted.
The truth is the pandemic is a difficult example, because it happened in one way or another to every single person on the planet.
When our lives get hectic, when planning just doesn’t go the course, how do we stay on top and make sure we are winning?
Think Positively
Positive thinking is my go to. Rather than thinking I’ve lost X- it’s better to think how we can gain Y. In other words, we don’t think about what happened, we think about how we can make it better, recover from the problem, build solutions and move on.
Ask For Help
There is no shame in asking for help. Many times, we believe, almost insist that asking for help is a sign of weakness.
WRONG!
Asking for help is a sign of strength.
Reorganize & Re-plan
It went wrong. Such as life. Now we have to make it right.
Stop! Think! Reorganize and re-plan our way. Sometimes, it is just a matter of moving a schedule but often it’s a bigger issue that needs to be thought through.
When it comes to our goals for example, we might have to push something off for a while to make room for something else. Which brings us to the next point.
Prioritize
One of the best ways I find to get myself out of problems on a hectic day is to prioritize. I’ll re-look at my list of things to do and I’ll find the most important ones to complete. Everything else will wait and get done later. Making a list with numbers really helps.
Stay Calm
This is a big one! No matter what the situation is, if we don’t stay calm we are no use to anyone including ourselves! Recently, we had a situation at home, where my husband gave my son insulin (he’s a type 1 diabetic) only 5 minutes after I had given it to him. In other words, we gave him too much insulin.
Major Crisis. Scary too. Yet…
We both remained calm. Thought it over, discussed with the Dr. and came up with solutions.
Best possible thing you can do for yourself and others around you is to remain calm.
Keep Going
By far, my favorite one! Why? When you stop, when you avoid things, they will still be there a few hours or days later. The idea to keep going, to keep motivating yourself and others around you is the best possible solution. As you struggle, as you fit the pieces together like a puzzle and you maintain yourself and move on, the problems become less and the solutions are huge!
In the end, it really is all a matter of prospective and how you look at things. Wouldn’t you agree?
