5 tips to stay positive during the holiday season

The Holiday Season is upon us!

It’s everywhere! Decorations are going up. Thanksgiving already past, Hanukkah too.

Christmas is only a few days away and New Years 2024 is not too far off.

The number one question I keep hearing. How to remain positive during these times?

It’s not easy for everyone staying positive during festive times and especially not for many in these past years.

Loved ones haven’t seen each other for a long time, families haven’t been together on a grand scale for years now.

Many are alone once again this year.

There are people who won’t have family surrounding them for the holidays. How one stays positive through this time matters.

Tip 1

Stop watching ALL the news Or

Limit yourself

It’s great discipline to teach yourself to limit the time you spend on the news.

Sadly, in Israel this is a hard one for us to follow these days. It’s been 9 long weeks, 70 plus days and we are still in the thick of war.

No one really wants to watch the news.

There is so much in the news these days that is giving us negative vibe, an unpleasant feeling and bad thought processes. Why watch?

Keep updated. Don’t become obsessed.

Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with all the Soldiers in Israel, in the North & South.

Tip 2

Find the good in other people

Finding positive purposes behind an action and in turn this will help you remain positive yourself. When trying to understand the motivations of others, consider the Intent to Help Others.

Maybe the person is motivated by a genuine desire to assist and make a positive impact on other peoples lives.

We may be driven by a commitment to self-improvement and personal development, aiming to become a better version of ourselves.

Building Relationships: Some individuals engage in actions with the intention of encouraging strong and positive connections with others, recognizing the importance of relationships in personal and professional life.

Tip 3

Celebrate your wins

It’s important to view any win as an achievement on your journey. The more you celebrate, the easier it is for you to get into the practice of viewing your work as more than just normal.

Celebrating your wins, no matter how big or small, is an important
practice that can boost your morale, motivation, and overall well-being.

Take a moment to recognize and acknowledge what you have accomplished. Reflect on the effort and dedication you put into reaching your goal.

Celebrate with others by sharing your achievement with friends, family, or colleagues. Their positive reactions and encouragement can amplify the joy of your success.

Treat yourself to a small reward as a token of appreciation for your hard work. Whether it’s a special meal, a leisure activity, or a small gift, choose something that brings you joy.

Take a photo or make a journal entry to commemorate the achievement. This can serve as a visual reminder of your success and a source of inspiration in the future.

Tip 4

Focus on the good things

One way to do this is practice being thankful for all that you have. Many write a gratitude journal. We can practice gratitude by helping others, asking for nothing in return. Simple acts, like calling someone who is alone for the holidays is a great way to practice. My kids are packing up three bags of old toys to get out to the needy.

When faced with challenges, shift your focus from the problem to potential solutions, usually something good. A solution-oriented mindset helps you approach difficulties with a positive perspective.

Tip 5

Choosing to stay positive

The hardest of all is choosing to stay positive. Positivity takes effort and work.

Each time you chose positivity, it leads you down a good path.  A path, that in time, will make things easier. Choosing to stay positive is your best option for a win-win.

Choosing to stay positive is a powerful decision that can significantly impact your overall well-being and how you navigate life’s challenges.

Regularly express gratitude for the positive aspects of your life. Consider keeping a gratitude journal, where you jot down things you are thankful for each day.

Spend time with people who uplift and support you. Positive social connections can have a profound impact on your mood and outlook.

Lastly, don’t forget to pick up the phone. Call loved ones. Call friends who you haven’t spoken to in a while. Check in on everyone! Life is too short to miss out on these chances!
